The penultimate round of the Global Endurance Series 22/23 has seen the chequered flag and the official classification and standings have been finalised.
Congratulations to our race winners. The #1 Team Rookie Monsters came away with a commanding win in LMP1 after a pit lane start. The #7 @Team Iris took the win in LMP2, while #17 Idos Motorsport prevailed for the first time this season in LMP2 Pro/Am. In GTE, #91 Black Hawk Racing took their second victory of the season, also while having started from the pit lane, while #37 Team Rookie Monsters extended their lead in the GTE Pro/Am championship with their class win.
A big congratulations to our first 3 champions of the season: #21 SimFreem eSports’ 2nd place at Spa was enough to guarantee them the title in LMP1, while in LMP2 Pro/Am, their sister car #47 SimFreem eSports has enough of a gap to be crowned champions ahead of the big season finale at Le Mans. Despite their struggles this race, the #77 Team Iris also scored enough points to clinch the title in GTE at Spa. All 3 cars have acquired enough of a gap to secure the championship ahead of the final round, but would surely want to finish the season in style at the big 24!
In the overall LMP2 championship, the #7 Team Iris has punched a bit of a gap following their hard-fought race win at Spa, but the #88, #33 and #47 are all still very much in it. It’s promising to be a very close 4-way battle for the championship at Le Mans.
In GTE Pro/Am, the comeback drive from Joy Motorsport means the championship has not yet been decided, despite the win for the #37 Rookie Monsters Corvette. The gap is 38 points and with many wildcard teams potentially taking away points from the #37 at Le Mans, the fight is far from over.
