The outgoing champions of the Global Endurance Series, the #1 Team Rookie Monsters Toyota, have secured victory in the GEM Le Mans 24. It’s the crew’s second win at the Circuit de la Sarthe after securing the win in season 1 as well. They denied new champions SimFreem eSports the Triple Crown, after the #21 squad had already secured wins at Daytona and Sebring, but it wasn’t meant to be.

The top class saw only the #1 and #21 finish, after the #110 withdrew from the race and the #69 and #999 DNF’d before the night fell. It was a close-fought battle between the 2 titans, but when the rain started coming down during the night, the Toyota proved stronger and managed to turn a chase into a comfortable lead that they would not relinquish during the remainder of the race.

LMP2 saw a commanding performance from the #7 Team Iris, being kept honest by the #47 SimFreem eSports. The win from the #7 proved Team Iris wanted to keep things completely in their own hands and was a resounding result to crown them the new LMP2 champions. SimFreem, already having clinched the PRO/AM title at Spa last month, secured P2 in the main LMP2 championship with their second place at Le Mans, followed by the #33 Virtualdrivers by TX3 in third at both Le Mans and in the championship.

In GTE, a commanding lead of the #91 Black Hawk Racing Porsche almost melted like snow in the morning sun when a disconnect early morning saw the #777 BMW of Team Iris return to the lead lap. Black Hawk managed to hang on to the lead when they reconnected and soon built their lead back up to a lap, which they would never relinquish, resulting in a third win this season, securing P2 in the championship despite joining the series only at Sebring. Meanwhile, a 3rd place overall and a win in GTE PRO/AM was not enough for the #62 Joy Motorsport C8.R to clinch the title. That title, as well as P3 in the overall GTE championship went to the #37 Team Rookie Monsters. Despite the Corvette running into trouble early on in the race, the crew persevered several laps back and finished the race to secure enough points to hold on to the championship in GTE PRO/AM!

The race broadcast will be available to rewatch on YouTube later this week.
